Archives - Weekly Update

This is the time of year when I wish my sons were still in school, so I could check out for a week during Spring Break. Somehow that concept does not work as well when it would be just my husband and me ducking out. With the boys on vacation from school, it seemed like there was more of a reason to take off as their normal routine was being disrupted. Now I feel like we would just be vacationing during one of the busiest weeks of the year! Also, we love to ski in Colorado, and this was not the winter for that to happen. I am shocked to see how brown the mountains are.

Temperatures this morning were in the 30s, and they popped into the 60s this afternoon. I am very ready to start seeing buds on trees, though I think I have to wait a tad longer for that!

I have had a crazy week as so much has been going on. To keep me relaxed, I have been lighting candles in my office. Most days have been three-candle days, meaning that I light three at a time. I rearranged part of my office a couple of weeks ago, and while doing this, I found a basket of candles that I have not used. So I have been enjoying the act of lighting them up and seeing those flickering lights. Ommmm...I can feel myself unwinding as they are visible on the table next to my desk.

Not only is Mercury retrograde until next Friday, this is the second Friday the 13th in two months. The 28 days in February ensures that for three years out of four, the dates in February and March line up, which is great for scheduling. We had an oh-so-lovely taste of spring/summer this week that allowed me to pull out skorts and t-shirts. A realization: skorts look a lot better with tanned legs than winter white legs. Still, after a brutal winter of snow and ice, the quick change in weather was a real treat. But the snowflakes that fell for a few minutes yesterday and the sudden drop in temperature was a definite “thoughts of spring” game killer.

So why is this my least favorite weekend of the year? It is because we lose an hour on Sunday morning for Daylight Saving Time. Yes, it will be light later in the evening, but I truly think we should lose an hour on a Monday, not a Sunday. I am losing an hour of reading time, and I do not have that time to lose!

Also, Mercury is retrograde. Longtime readers know what that means. For those of you who are new to us, you can find the explanation here. So if you have had a week where there were lots of miscommunications, you now have the reason. Years ago, when I worked at Mademoiselle magazine, our Promotion Director was an astrologer. When she told us that Mercury was going retrograde, we all paid a lot more attention to the details of what we were working on. It ends on March 20th, the first day of spring!
