Archives - On Sale This Week

In this newsletter, you will find books releasing the weeks of October 28th and November 4th that we think will be of interest to Bookreporter.com readers, along with Bonus News, where we call out a contest, feature or review that we want to let you know about so you have it on your radar.

This week, we are calling attention to a very special contest on ReadingGroupGuides.com for Jeanine Cummins' upcoming novel, AMERICAN DIRT, which releases on January 21st and will be a Bookreporter.com Bets On pick. We’re giving 10 book groups the chance to win up to 10 advance copies of the book, provided that they can give us their feedback on it by Friday, February 28th. Enter here by Monday, November 18th at noon ET.

We also are spotlighting Carol Fitzgerald's "Bookreporter Talks To" interview with Nelson DeMille and his son, Alex DeMille, whose new thriller, THE DESERTER, is now in stores and will be a Bets On selection. Carol loved talking to them about their collaboration --- it’s been 40 years since Nelson collaborated with another author --- and how they tackled new characters and the Venezuelan location for the book. Click here to watch the interview and here to listen to the podcast.

Now it's time for a special offer! To celebrate the release of THE DESERTER, we are giving away two signed copies of the book. Enter to win one by commenting on our YouTube video interview by Friday, November 1st at 11:59pm ET. We will reach out to the winners. You can share whatever you'd like, but if you are stumped on what to say, you can respond to one of these three questions; the answers to each will be in the video.

1) What intrigues you the most about reading THE DESERTER?
2) Where is the next book in their Scott Brodie and Maggie Taylor series set?
3) Which character will be featured in Nelson DeMille's next book?

Please note: The ONLY way you can enter to win this contest is by sharing your comments about the video on our YouTube page here.

This week, we are calling attention to our reviews of three books that we featured in last Friday's Bookreporter.com Weekly Update newsletter: THE GUARDIANS, John Grisham’s latest legal thriller, in which a man who was convicted of murdering his lawyer but maintains his innocence turns to Guardian Ministries, a small nonprofit run by Cullen Post, a lawyer who travels the country fighting wrongful convictions and taking on clients forgotten by the system; OLIVE, AGAIN, the long-awaited sequel to 2008's OLIVE KITTERIDGE, in which Elizabeth Strout's beloved protagonist struggles to understand not only herself and her own life but the lives of those around her in the town of Crosby, Maine; and DAD’S MAYBE BOOK, the first book in 17 years from Tim O’Brien, who shares wisdom from a life in letters, lessons learned in wartime, and the challenges, humor and rewards of raising two sons. Grisham and O'Brien factor into the history of The Book Report Network, as Carol Fitzgerald explained in Friday's newsletter.
