Six of our Teen Board members have agreed to participate in the YALSA 2013 Hub Challenge, which started on February 3rd and will end June 22nd. In order to complete the challenge, each member must read 25 books each (those who want to “conquer” the challenge must read all 83!) and participate in the weekly Saturday update on YALSA. In addition, our Teen Board members will check in every Wednesday to let you all know how they are doing. Sign up for the challenge and follow along!

The reading is going quite well! I managed to finish three more books this week, THE DISREPUTABLE HISTORY OF FANKIE LANDAU BANKS, CODE NAME VERITY, and INHERITANCE. Over the weekend I went to the library and checked out two more novels on the list. I hope to finish the thinner of the two, LOVE AND OTHER PERISHABLE ITEMS, by Friday.
The reading is going pretty well so far, although I would have liked to have finished the book I am currently reading sooner. Right now I am reading ONE SHOT AT FOREVER by Chris Ballard and am enjoying the book so far, but it is taking me a while to read. On Wednesday, I have finished THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, a great book that effectively illustrates what it is actually like for people, and especially teens, who are battling cancer. I have also managed to, after hours of reading and reminding myself to stay focused, finished TITANIC: Voices from the Disaster. (I have recently learned that I have another ten hours of Titanic history to listen to, waiting for me on the list!) The book was very good and descriptive, but the reading seemed to go a lot slower than I had originally planned. I like to read nonfiction and history books, but for some reason, this one just did not appeal to me.
As I have stated above, one of the challenges I am facing is keeping an interest in the book(s) I am reading. On Tuesday, I looked over the list, and most of the titles are genres that I generally wouldn't be interested in reading. This challenge has already pushed me out of my comfort zone, and it's definitely going to continue to.
