Teen Board Check-in #1: YALSA 2013 Hub Challenge

Our Teen Board has only been on the job for a month, but they are starting to get things moving. Six of the 23 have agreed to participate in the YALSA 2013 Hub Challenge, which started on February 3rd and will end June 22nd. In order to complete the challenge, each member must read 25 books each (those who want to “conquer” the challenge must read all 83!) and participate in the weekly Saturday update on YALSA. In addition, our Teen Board members will check in every Wednesday to let you all know how they are doing. Sign up for the challenge and follow along!

In this first check-in, a few of our Teen Board members let us know what books they've already read and their strategy to complete the challenge.

Gage L.: I've read 2 books on the list (ARTEMIS FOWL by Eoin Colfer and FIRST TEST by Tamora Pierce); I am looking forward to rereading the Tamora Pierce books, as I read those a LONG time ago and haven't kept up with her new releases.

Priya: To complete the challenge, I plan on visiting the library multiple times a week to check out books. I hope to read all 83 books on the list!

Shelby H.: I am hoping to successfully finish by reading at least 25 books, but I am challenging myself to conquer the challenge and read all 83 titles.

My Strategies:

1. First, I am going to check my local library to see if they own any of the books that I need to read for the challenge.

2. Then, I am going to purchase the remaining titles on  my Kindle to ensure that I am able to continue reading to complete the challenge.

3. Finally, I will check with my teachers to make sure that I can utilize my study hall time to read using my Kindle.

Do you think their strategies will work? What do you think?
