With THE HUNGER GAMES movie practically in our grasp, it may seem a bit odd to be anxiously awaiting the release of the second film in the franchise, CATCHING FIRE. Soon enough we will all have seen THE HUNGER GAMES for the first time --- and many times after that --- and we will have a long wait until the second book in the trilogy comes to life on screen. Here are my top 10 things to look forward to in the adaptation of CATCHING FIRE from book to screen.
Warning- spoilers ahead!
1. Visit with President Snow - This was the first time Katniss and Snow really interact with each other, and the gravity of Katniss’s and Panem’s future is laid all out on the line.
2. The Victory Tour - It was great to discover the different districts and truly get a scope of the different people in the districts. Watching the seeds of discontent and bitterness spill out in a public venue, especially in District 11 with the 3 fingered salute will be eye-opening to what is really going on in Panem.
3. Gale’s beating - This shows the change in Peacekeeper policy and District 12. It also forces Katniss to realize the extent of her feelings for Gale, “Gale is mine. I am his. Anything else is unthinkable.”
4. Katniss finds out she is going back into the Arena - The sheer, raw emotion of that scene culminated with the certainty of her own death will be one of the series’ most powerful moments. Combine this with her desperate agreement with Haymitch to save Peeta because she knows he can be saved unlike her, and we will have an unbelievable moment between Jennifer Lawrence and Woody Harrelson.
5. New Characters - I can’t wait to meet the new characters we all grow to love (or hate) in the series- Finnick Odair, Johanna Mason, Plutarch Heavensbee and more.
6. Cinna - Watching Cinna work his magic and turn Katniss into a mockingjay from her wedding dress will be magnificent. To go from witnessing his masterful creation, to see his sudden and shocking beating before Katniss enters the arena will be nothing short of horrifying.
7. Peeta's heart stopping - Gut. Wrenching.
8. Jabberjays - Hearing the Jabberjays mimic Prim's screams and witnessing the fear in Katniss’s face is going to tear me apart. It’s also the first time we see the real Finnick underneath the bravado as he hears Annie’s screams as well.
9. "So it's you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans." - This line had better be in there!
10. Peeta and District 12 --- gone - Katniss being told that Peeta was captured by the Capitol and that District 12 is gone will leave me a sobbing mess on the floor.
Well there you have it. 10 things to look forward to in CATCHING FIRE. Let the countdown to November 22, 2013 begin!
