You can tell it's summer just by looking at the bestseller lists! Summer must truly be the season of the spy or rogue or otherwise captivating crimesolver with all the regional lists stocked with suspense/thrillers from favorites old and new. Nelson DeMille scored another No. 1 national bestseller with THE LION with Justin Cronin's much-ballyhooed vampire apocalypse epic THE PASSAGE, Janet Evanovich's SIZZLING SIXTEEN and old faithful James Patterson all charting highly.
Oh, and some Swedish fellow named Stieg Larsson owns the top spot on both the hardcover and paperback lists from coast-to-coast with his Millennium series. Seems like everywhere you turn there's a copy of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE or THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST in your field of vision.
Also making a strong showing is Alan Furst, whose latest literary spy thriller, SPIES OF THE BALKANS, enters the middle of the lists. Check out HeadButler Jesse Kornbluth's fond tribute to the relatively unheralded Furst here.
