Books on Screen

Each month, our Books on Screen feature spotlights movies, television shows, miniseries and specials that are based on books of various genres --- including novels, memoirs, comics, children's books, short stories and poetry --- along with the latest DVD releases.

December 2014

Looking to watch something musical this December? Check out the new modern-day version of Annie. Featuring some of your favorite songs from the classic musical, updated for a modern retelling, this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun! With a star-studded cast and a great soundtrack, you’ll definitely be singing along to “It’s The Hard Knock Life” and "Tomorrow!"

So try not to dance in the aisles when you go see December's books on screen!

December 2014

This December, celebrate the holidays by going on an adventure! You could join Bilbo and the gang as they battle for the ultimate fate of Middle Earth and defeat the dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Or follow the harrowing true story of Louie Zamperini, a World War II soldier who survives a plane crash, drifts on the sea for 47 days, then spends over two years as a prisoner of war in Unbroken.

November 2014

The weather outside might be getting colder, but the Oscar race is just warming up! Can you feel it? No? Maybe you should be seeing more movies (or, at the very least, spending more time skimming entertainment blogs)!

November 2014

If you're feeling a little heroic this November, check out Big Hero 6, Disney’s latest animated film about a band of high-tech heroes and their faithful robot determined to save the day. Based on characters from a Marvel comic book, Big Hero 6 looks like it's going to be just as much fun as last year's Frozen

So if you want some action, adventure and a lot of humor, grab your superhero capes and get out and see some books on screen!

October 2014

It's October, the spookiest month of the year for movies! If you're looking for a monsterous good time, check out The Boxtrolls, the story of an orphaned boy named Eggs raised by trash-collecting trolls. These monsters are sillier than they are scary, so it's the perfect Halloween treat!

October 2014

It's October, the spookiest month of the year for movies! If you're feeling daring, check out Dracula Untold, which offers a unique twist on the most classic horror story there is, the tale of Dracula. See if you can keep your eyes open the whole time.

October 2014

What’s the difference between the month of October and a Peter Jackson movie? October doesn’t go on forever! Which is unfortunate, but necessary, as it brings us one month closer to Oscars season. And by the invariable mathematics of Hollywood: Oscar-hopeful movies>movies. So grab a pumpkin spice latte (and then carefully tuck it into your jacket so it doesn’t get confiscated by a ticket taker), and head out to see some books on screen!

September 2014

This September, look out for the release of The Boxtrolls --- based on Alan Snow’s HERE BE MONSTERS! --- a stop motion adventure-comedy film that looked stunning in its early trailer. The film is about an orphaned boy named Eggs raised by trash-collecting trolls.

September 2014

It's finally September which means it's the perfect time for falling leaves, pumpkin patches, hay rides and maybe an old fashioned corn maze! Or if you like your mazes a little more adventurous, make sure to go see The Maze Runner, the highly anticipated adaptation of James Dashner's mega hit.
