Books on Screen

Each month, our Books on Screen feature spotlights movies, television shows, miniseries and specials that are based on books of various genres --- including novels, memoirs, comics, children's books, short stories and poetry --- along with the latest DVD releases.

September 2016

September is upon us and all of you are officially back in school, which means you're all contemplating what movies to go see with your friends on your precious Friday nights and weekends. If you ask us, the movie theater is the place to be. But if you would rather spend your weekend binge-watching a show on Netflix or popping in a DVD --- in between homework and reading, of course --- we totally understand and have some recommendations for you there, as well.

September 2016

Hello, Books on Screen lovers! At long last, September is upon us, which means there's a reason to visit theaters besides their indefatigable AC: fall-quality movies. What a time to be alive! Where do we even begin? Like a '90s boy band, there's something for everyone this month. Instead of our usual dense, paragraphs-long roundup, we're going to go with a different approach and break some of our movies down by target demo. You ready? I'm ready!

August 2016

August is here and the end of summer is drawing nigh! But although summer might be ending, that doesn’t mean it’s any less hot --- in fact, these past few weeks have been sweatier than ever. With that in mind, closing off your summer with a fun trip to the cool movie theatre might be the best way to go! And with school starting up again, either now or in a few weeks, there’s less and less time to go and see these fun, book-based flicks.

August 2016

Welcome back, Books on Screen lovers! Technically, we’re not even halfway through the summer, but it sure feels like things are winding down. As Howard Schultz always says, the best thing about August is that it’s almost fall. Whether you love the summer or would rather stay in and marathon Michael Bay movies for the entirety of August, one thing we can all agree on is that it’s never too early for subtle pumpkin spice latte jokes.

July 2016

July is finally upon us, which means school is definitely out for all teens and now you have more free time to do what you want. We know you're probably outside reading, eating BBQ and basking in the summer sun, but if you need an escape from the heat, the movie theater is always the way to go. Bring on the air-conditioning and salty snacks!

July 2016

Hello, Books on Screen readers, and welcome back from your sun- and domestic beer-soaked holiday weekends! As things heat up on screens and off, July couldn’t be a better time to celebrate our national rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of AC. Those rights are right, right?

June 2016

Whether you're relaxing by the pool or sweating it out on the beach this summer, a trip to the movies is always a great way to cool down during this season's scorching months. If you're looking for a nice way to break up your days, make sure to check out these popular book-to-screen adaptions!

In theatres we have this summer's most talked about love story, Me Before You, starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. Will the film outshine the heart-warming, best-selling novel? Go get your tickets today to find out! Next up we have The Fundamentals of Caring, the funny and insightful story of an 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy and the hapless caregiver who takes him on a cross-country roadtrip. Along the way, the pair discovers the true meaning of friendship and what it means to be alive.

June 2016

Welcome back, Books on Screen lovers! Our headliner this month is a real tearjerker, but all you June bugs out there need not worry: No tear ducts, no tears!

May 2016

May is finally here, which means summer is just around the corner! Why not take a break in between switching out your winter wardrobe and finalizing your summer plans with an exciting new book-to-screen adaptation?

First up we have Captain America: Civil War, the third movie about America's most patriotic superhero, which releases on May 6th. For all of you ALICE IN WONDERLAND fans out there, May 24th brings Alice Through the Looking Glass, yet another version of the trippy tale starring Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway. In this follow-up to the 2010 hit, Alice in Wonderland, Alice finds herself in the chamber of the Grand Clock and is forced to return the past of her friends --- and dangerous enemies.

April 2016

April has arrived; so while you wait for those April showers to give way to May flowers, why not grab some snacks (ice cream spooned straight out of the container if you're like me), and veg out with the latest book to screen adaptations?
