Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six

November 2022

Ahhhh, who would not love the concept of heading off to a fabulous luxury cabin with a few friends? That is the premise of Lisa Unger’s latest thriller, SECLUDED CABIN SLEEPS SIX. This special getaway has been planned by Mako, who has become a tech mogul, as a way to celebrate his sister Hannah’s birthday. Our reviewer, Ray Palen, got it right when he said that this one has a “slow burn.” Suspicions quickly surface as you know this beautiful spot is not going to be placid and warm in Lisa’s skilled hands.

Maybe you will get one lovely dinner in before the tension rises, but maybe not. Various members of the group narrate different chapters. Just when you think you can settle in and know one of the characters, and feel you can trust that person, you realize that you had it all wrong. But the place is still beautiful, right? Nothing really that sinister could happen. Or could it? I mean, this is not a Stephen King novel. Then another thread gets pulled, and you see how these people have many reasons not to like one another. Even hate each other.

And just what is going on with that caretaker? Who’s watching who, and who knows what?

Yes, there is lots here about the secrets that family members keep from one another, and each revelation makes you question your judgment about the rest of the characters more. Now do you really want to book a secluded cabin?
