The Maid's Secret: A Maid Novel

It has been several years since Molly Gray secured a job at the Regency Grand Hotel as a maid. Now she is proud to say that she has worked her way up to Head Maid and Special Events Manager. And her good fortune doesn’t end there. Molly is also engaged to the hotel’s pastry chef, Juan Manuel. This is a busy time for them, and not just because of their upcoming wedding.

“Hidden Treasures,” a wildly popular TV show, is taping an episode at the hotel. Staff and other guests have been encouraged to bring in their treasures to find out if they can reveal a hidden gem. As she and Juan leave for the hotel, Molly grabs a shoebox that contains some things once owned by her grandmother, Flora. Maybe Gran’s Royal Standard bone china teacup is actually worth something. It isn’t, but she could not foresee the spectacle that one of her items is about to cause.

By the end of the day, Molly will have fainted (more than once), been mobbed and hotly pursued by the media, and become a household name. Brown and Beagle, the hosts of “Hidden Treasures,” are over the moon with delight. She is overwhelmed with sudden fame, while all she really wants is her old life and the love of Juan. This newfound notoriety horrifies her.

"This delightful book will evoke emotions, elicit tears and smiles, and ultimately leave readers with a sense of peace. Fans of Nita Prose can rejoice in the satisfaction of a series well done."

Naturally, everyone wants a piece of Molly the Maid, who has gone viral. Where she once was a simple face in the crowd, now she needs protection from the crowd. It gets so bad that she takes time off from work so the hotel can return to some semblance of normal. She now looks forward to auctioning off this “treasure” so she can try to move on somehow. But, of course, things don’t go quite as planned. Brown and Beagle do sell the item, and for a very tidy sum. However, after the final gavel falls, the treasure disappears, plunging Molly’s life into chaos once more.

As Molly hides out in her apartment, she has time to read Gran’s diary. In those pages is where she discovers the true treasure. It has not been long since Flora passed on. The old woman knew that her time was short, so she began furiously writing her life’s story for her granddaughter. It contains everything, telling of many confessions --- of sins, love and pride --- along with a great fall. But it also shows a soul that lived a life of infinite value.

Gran learned some tough lessons that she wanted to pass on to the ones she loved most in the world. Her diary reveals several big surprises to Molly, mainly happy ones. So while Molly’s life has been turned upside down by her grandmother’s “treasure,” it has been set right again by Flora’s recounting of all that happened. The outcome truly would have made Gran proud.

THE MAID’S SECRET certainly will keep you wondering how it all can be put right as you turn the pages. Somehow it does. In each chapter, Flora’s story will fascinate, tug at the heartstrings, and cause a bit of melancholy…maybe even some anger. This delightful book will evoke emotions, elicit tears and smiles, and ultimately leave readers with a sense of peace. Fans of Nita Prose can rejoice in the satisfaction of a series well done.
