You Belong to Me

You Belong to Me
The 17th offering
by the acclaimed "Queen of Suspense" is a shivery little mystery.
On her radio show, psychologist Susan Chandler questions the
long-unsolved disappearance of a noted financial analyst from a
world cruise, as part of a segment on how women can avoid being
taken in by strangers. Her query resonates with several listeners
including the serial killer responsible for the financial analyst's
disappearance.
A woman, claiming to have a photo and souvenir of a man who almost
persuaded her to leave a cruise in Algiers, is pushed under the
wheels of a van. A second woman, claiming to have purchased the
same souvenir --- a ring inscribed with the words "You Belong to
Me" --- in New York City, is stabbed to death. When the shopkeeper
who handmakes the rings is also stabbed, Dr. Chandler begins to
understand that the killer, himself, is in New York and listening
to her show. With no evidence or witnesses, and little to go on,
Dr. Chandler tries to piece together the identity of the mysterious
cruise-ship killer before he kills another witness or completes his
pattern of killing to the lyrics of the song, "You Belong to
Me."
Told with Clark's characteristic tight pacing, YOU BELONG TO ME is
as worthy a thriller as anything Clark has ever written. Dr.
Chandler's keen insight makes her a plausible heroine. A handful of
suspicious characters will keep readers guessing. When the last
page is read there may be one more question: What the heck are the
lyrics to that old song?
