The Michael L. Printz Award 2015

The Michael L. Printz Award, established in 1999, honors excellence in literature written for young adults. The award-winning book may be fiction, nonfiction, poetry or an anthology and can be a work of joint authorship or editorship. Nominated books may have been previously published in another country, but must have been in the U.S. during the preceding year. The books must be designated by their publishers as either a young adult book or one published for ages 12 through 18. The award is named in honor of the late Michael L. Printz, longtime YALSA member and Topeka, Kansas, school librarian, known for discovering and promoting quality books for young adults.

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2014

The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2014 was awarded to French author Patrick Modiano. Peter Englund, the Nobel Academy’s permanent secretary, says: “Patrick Modiano is a well-known name in France but not anywhere else. He writes children’s books, movie scripts but mainly novels. His themes are memory, identity and time. His best known work is called MISSING PERSON. It’s the story about a detective who has lost his memory and his final case is finding out who he really is: he is tracing his own steps through history to find out who he is.”

Kirkus has announced their shortlists for their 2014 Book Prize in Fiction, Nonfiction, and Young Readers' Literature. Here listed are the finalists for the category for Young Readers. The winners in each category will be announced on October 23, 2014 by an esteemed panel composed of nationally respected writers and highly regarded booksellers, librarians and Kirkus critics.

The Kirkus Prize is one of the richest literary awards in the world, with a prize of $50,000 bestowed annually to authors of fiction, nonfiction and young readers’ literature. Children's Choice Book Awards 2014

The Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader announced the winners of the seventh annual Children’s Choice Book Awards (CCBAs) at a charity gala benefitting Every Child a Reader in New York City on May 14, 2014.
