Freida McFadden has seen a well-deserved spike in her popularity over the last few years. Not only do her numerous titles consistently make bestseller lists, they are now going to be enjoyed by a slew of new readers thanks to the success of the recent film adaptation of THE HOUSEMAID.
That brings us to the latest addition to her Housemaid saga, THE HOUSEMAID’S WEDDING. This novella features our favorite ex-con turned clever and resourceful housemaid, Millie Calloway, who is about to wed the love of her life, Enzo Accardi. Knowing that this is a Freida McFadden tale, readers are sure to witness wedding festivities that do not resemble typical nuptials.
"THE HOUSEMAID’S WEDDING is an extremely quick yet rewarding story about a popular character and antihero we have grown to love and with whom we enjoy spending time."
The brief prologue features a woman in distress with a crazed man threatening to kill her. The last thought we hear from her is that it’s all her fault and she made a terrible mistake. Of course, the onset of the story promises to explain this tense confrontation and tie everything together neatly.
Millie and Enzo do not have a big wedding planned by any stretch of the imagination. They want to get married in a quick ceremony at Manhattan’s City Hall, and their only concern is to find the right person to be their witness. Tragically, they will be faced with more serious issues and decisions.
Throughout the day, Millie has been on edge. This is due primarily to a series of threatening phone calls she has been receiving from an unknown caller. He has been saying things like: “Hello, Millie, or should I say goodbye?” Whoever this person is, not only does he seem to know that it is her wedding day, he also appears to be aware of every move she is making. Millie is so freaked out that she sees physical threats in nearly everyone she comes into contact with. Each odd-looking stranger becomes a potential suspect.
Mille’s parents, who had pretty much disowned her years ago following her brief incarceration, have agreed not only to attend the wedding but also to serve as her and Enzo’s witnesses. When they unexpectedly back out, claiming that they still cannot bring themselves to support Millie and her lifestyle, the bride and groom find themselves in quite a jam.
The individual who does not want Millie to live long enough to tie the knot remains ever on the outskirts of the day, and readers are kept at bay from feeling good about what's to come. In true Millie fashion, her resourcefulness and a bit of luck will come into play. But will it be enough to salvage the most important day of her life?
THE HOUSEMAID’S WEDDING is an extremely quick yet rewarding story about a popular character and antihero we have grown to love and with whom we enjoy spending time.
