Books are one of the most effective ways to communicate thoughts and ideas, so perhaps it is time for our rapidly transforming world to have a greater presence in literature. J.L. Morin’s NATURE’S CONFESSION creates a startling point of reference for those interested in the world we could very well see in the coming years.

Boy is an individual with a brain full of power, a heart full of longing and a body ready for action. After an encounter with a curious acquaintance who has bold ideas to change a polluted, corrupted world into an informed, functioning society, Boy is thrown into a chase for things he’s lost and loved. The world we see in NATURE’S CONFESSION is one not too far off from what Earth could look like after years of continued destruction.

As she continues to craft creative stories that are based on prominent issues, Morin is proving herself to be one of the most interesting storytellers for teens.

NATURE’S CONFESSION carries strong messages throughout its action packed scenes, and characters and settings draw parallels to modern society. No identity is left behind --- we feel the pain of mothers, fathers, daughters, workers and students and see the ruthlessness of power hungry dictators. The world in NATURE’S CONFESSION is the one we all thought we’d inhabit by now, filled with technological advancements that led to a heightened human experience. Astrophysicist and author Stephen Hawking declared that artificial intelligence would be the end of humanity as we know it. Morin makes a strong case for this idea with her powerful and jarring descriptions of dystopian Earth.

Morin’s first piece of cli-fi fiction is a success in achieving what I’m sure was the intended effect: a better understanding of the world that could be on the horizon, with questionable laws and policy and little concern for our planet’s well-being. Morin’s previous work has hit similar notes with cultural and political criticisms. As she continues to craft creative stories that are based on prominent issues, Morin is proving herself to be one of the most interesting storytellers for teens.

What allowed NATURE’S CONFESSION to resonate with me was not only the fast-paced, urgent need to save the world, but the fact that love drove so much of what happens. In a story as engrossing and fun as this one, having a sweet spot tie it all together made Boy’s story feel more real. If you ever need a read that will make you think, laugh and cheer on its characters, you’ve found the perfect one.

About the Book

The story of a mulatto teen-in-love who fights to save civilization from ecological disaster with the help of his Scottish girlfriend is a compelling and diverse, climate-fiction romance. NPR says of the new strain of fiction, "The genre has come to be called climate fiction -- 'cli-fi,' for short." In addition to coinciding with the UN Climate Summit, the unique novel answers readers' and librarians' cries for diverse fiction. Nature's Confession came in 6th in "12 Works of Climate Fiction Everyone Should Read" at FreeWord.com and an excerpt just received an Honroable Mention in the Eco-Fiction Story Contest to be announced on September 26th.
