Don't you just hate when parents try to control EVERY aspect of your life? They want to control who your friends are, what sport you play and even what you do in your spare time! They say it's because they love and want the best for you, but you don't see it that way. You're just counting the days until you get to fly away from their tyrannical nest. But what if they even tried to control you after that? What if they made a deal with you that you just couldn't refuse?
This is what Lucy Sommersworth's father did. He told her that if she went to a university of his choice and majored in business, he would pay for her and a friend to tour Europe over the summer. Of course she took the deal because who WOULDN'T? It's the trip of a lifetime, especially for a girl from a small town in Pennsylvania. But there is a catch: she would have to give up her dream of becoming a professional actress --- FOR GOOD.
And on top of that, while in Italy, she falls in love with the handsome Jesse Palladino who despises her father's "deal" even more than Lucy does. In fact, he even wants her to stay with him in Italy to chase her dreams without going to college --- how romantic! But will she take his offer? Find out in April Lindner's LOVE, LUCY.
The book was very descriptive and managed to describe the beautiful views of Italy very well.
I thought LOVE, LUCY was well-written and the premise of duty vs. heart is definitely one of my favorites, but this book seemed to fall flat for me. It was extremely predictable, and the romance felt a bit too rushed. I didn't really feel the connection between Jesse and Lucy as strongly as I was meant to, probably because there weren’t many details about the limited time they spent together, and because the book was written in the third person. Also, I didn’t find Lucy very likable. I was annoyed by her constant self-doubt (especially in regards to Jesse), and she never showed any character development.
However, I did like the writing in LOVE, LUCY. The book was very descriptive and managed to describe the beautiful views of Italy very well. It also allowed the story to flow so that it was never boring.
I wouldn’t reread LOVE, LUCY, but if you’re looking for a quick, somewhat cheesy romance novel, then this book is perfect.

In this coming-of-age romance, April Lindner perfectly captures the highs and lows of a summer love that might just be meant to last beyond the season.
