Jennifer Salvato Doktorski is the author of two previous novels, HOW MY SUMMER WENT UP IN FLAMES and FAMOUS LAST WORDS. In her latest book, THE SUMMER AFTER YOU AND ME, Lucy is a brainiac and a Jersey Shore local. And as such, she knows not to get involved with the “Bennies” --- summer tourists. But no matter how many times she has been told to stay away from them, there is one person who she didn’t stay away from. Connor Malloy isn’t a local, yet he isn’t a full tourist, since he’s stayed on the shore every summer since Lucy can remember. When Hurricane Sandy rips through the shore, houses and businesses are damaged and Lucy and Connor spend a few intense hours together. But when Lucy has to face Connor again, will she be able to keep her feelings detached?
I thought this was a marvelous novel and I highly recommend it to romance lovers everywhere.
Lucy is the type of character that romance authors gravitate to, but she’s also more than that. The more you read, the more emotionally complex she becomes. Lucy is a super passionate person, especially when it comes to wildlife. Connor is another character who will surprise readers with his emotional complexity. As the story progresses, so does your attachment to Lucy and Connor, as does your attachment to the great cast of supporting characters. I also loved how excerpts from Lucy’s junior thesis were sprinkled throughout THE SUMMER AFTER YOU AND ME. The topic was interesting and ties in perfectly with her love of wildlife, and I also enjoyed the way she wrote it. All in all, I thought this was a marvelous novel and I highly recommend it to romance lovers everywhere.
