Tim Elfrink, the co-author of BLOOD SPORT: Alex Rodriguez, Biogenesis, and the Quest to End the Steroid Era, is the managing editor of the Miami New Times.

He began his career on the military beat for the Omaha-World Herald, a more interesting gig than it sounds thanks to the nearby U.S. Strategic Command. He wrote about cyberspies and satellite shoot-downs, flew to Germany in a 60-year-old refueling tanker and survived a "routine" County Fair assignment with the Army Golden Knights when an engine blew out. He moved to Miami's alternative weekly as a staff writer in 2008 and has written everything from a biography of the Cuban-American agent who buried Che Guevara to the tale of the teenage hackers who pulled off the world's greatest identity heist.

In January 2013, he broke the story of Biogenesis, the anti-aging clinic selling performance-enhancing drugs to pro athletes including A-Rod and Ryan Braun; as a result of the story, Major League Baseball suspended 14 players, including a record ban for Rodriguez. His book, co-authored with Miami New Times alum Gus Garcia-Roberts, recounts the clinic's shadowy rise and MLB's fevered crusade to catch the game's cheaters. Tim lives in Miami Beach.
