Theodore Taylor III was born in Roanoke, Virginia and currently lives in Washington DC. He studied Communication Arts (aka Illustration) at Virginia Commonwealth University. His skills include drawing, graphic design, web design, photography and casual beat making. He is  inspired by a variety of subjects including music, album covers, posters, animation, comics and video games. He also happens to be a pizza connoisseur. His first illustrated book, WHEN THE BEAT WAS BORN: DJ KOOL HERC AND THE CREATION OF HIP HOP, earned him the 2014 ALA Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Award.
