Biography

Stephanie Roth Sisson

From Stephanie's website:

I’ve always loved books. Books were always treasured things when I was growing up. I still have most of my favorites from when I was a kid. Some of those favorites included anything written by Astrid Lindgren,  Ali Mitgutsch’s books, Dr. Suess, Alan Aldridge and one particular favorite by Etienne Delesert about a mouse who climbs out of its hole in the earth to discover the world.

When I was in the 4th grade, Tommie dePaola came to my elementary school to do a school visit. He spoke to the whole school, but only a few kids got to go to the library and meet him and ask questions. I was one of those kids. It was the first time it had dawned on me that illustrating and writing books could be a real job.

In my adult life (I can’t really say that I’m all that grown up, can I?), some favorite illustrators and authors are Lisbeth Zwerger, Viviane Schwarz, Oliver Jeffers, Melissa Sweet, Joel Stewart, and Lauren Child. One of my favorite things to do is to hang out at book stores and libraries looking at all of the new releases and fall in love with the work of new authors and illustrators.

When I’m not writing and illustrating, you can find me reading, gardening, spending time with my family , cooking or traveling. I currently divide my time between the Central Coast of California and the African island nation of Mauritius.
