Patricia and Fredrick McKissack
Patricia C. and Fredrick L. McKissack wrote over one hundred books about the African-American experience and won countless awards before Fredrick passed in 2013. They were honored with the 2014 ALA Coretta Scott King – Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Before this the couple had recieved Coretta Scott King Awards and Honors seven times. Patricia recieved the same recognition twice for novels she wrote on her own. Their works include DAYS OF JUBILEE: THE END OF SLAVERY IN THE UNITED STATES, BLACK HANDS, WHITE SAILS: THE STORY OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN WHALERS, CHRISTMAS IN THE BIG HOUSE, CHRISTMAS IN THE QUARTERS and many more.
