Matthieu spent his childhood and adolescence in Haute-Savoie, Algeria and Saudi Arabia. He followed scientific studies in Annecy, Strasbourg and Toulouse, where he spent his doctoral thesis in internal geophysics in 1996. He asked his sister, Marie Deparis, to illustrate his first story, "WOLVES DO NOT CLIMB TREES."
