Mary Losure
Before she began writing for children, Mary Losure was an award-winning reporter for Minnesota Public Radio. A long-time contributor to National Public Radio, she co-founded the independent production company Round Earth Media.
Her first children’s book, THE FAIRY RING, OR ELSIE AND FRANCES FOOL THE WORLD (Candlewick, 2012), is the true story of two girls whose fairy photographs bamboozled Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. It was Booklist Editors’ Choice for Best Youth Non-fiction, 2012. Kirkus Reviews calls it “a fascinating examination of human nature…. an incredible story… [a] compelling account.”
The hero of her second children’s book, WILD BOY: THE REAL LIFE OF THE SAVAGE OF AVEYRON (Candlewick, 2013), is a twelve-year-old boy found roaming the forests of France in 1797. The Wall Street Journal calls it “absorbing non-fiction…a beautiful, evocative story.” It was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award for young people’s literature.
