Lin Oliver was born in Los Angeles, California, and she studied English was a self-professed hippie at UCLA and UC Berkeley. After a brief teaching stint, she began writing children's educational books. Oliver worked at Universal Studios for eleven years, and she runs her own production company to this day. In 2002, she and Henry Winkler published the first in their Henry Zipzer: World's Best Underachiever series. They are now on their fifteenth entry. Oliver lives with her husband and three sons and continues to write children's literature.
