Kim Foster
Some writers receive their calling in childhood, and chart their course from there. Kim Foster received hers at a somewhat more inconvenient life stage: in her first year of medical school.
Growing up, reading and writing fiction had always been her first love. Her second just happened to be performing dissections in biology class. Creative pursuits took a back seat when she discovered science and began charting a path to a career in medicine.
But not long after starting med school her childhood fascination with books came flooding back to her. She was on her way to becoming a doctor...but she also loved to write. Was there a way to do both?
She didn’t drop out of med school –-- despite being frequently tempted --- but, instead, started writing in her spare time. Throughout her years as a med student, a resident and a practicing physician she continued writing. She fantasized about being published someday, and called herself a writer (although mostly in secret).
Eventually, after many years, her dreams of being published came true. She is now an author, a doctor and a mom.
