JP Ahonen
JP Ahonen (born in 1981) started his professional comic artist career while working as a graphic designer in the Aamulehti newspaper.His first series, Villimpi Pohjola, is a coming-of-age Sunday strip that follows a bunch of grad students trying to find their place in life. Ahonen’s comic strips also include Puskaradio, a satire which addressed current events with anthropomorphic characters. This was published in the professional journal Journalisti.Ahonen’s latest work Perkeros (2013) is a 192-paged comic novel about an avantgarde metal band. Perkeros combines music, humour, drama and horror. Perkeros will be published in the US by Abrams and France by Casterman in 2014. Work on the next volume began in early 2014. Ahonen’s work has also been published in international anthologies including Flight (volumes 4-8) and Fablewood (2008). Ahonen currently resides in Tampere, Finland, where he works freelance via his own firm Daily Hero, run together with his photographer wife Marjaana Malkamäki.
