Jen Hill
Biography
Jen Hill
Jen Hill is the illustrator of DIANA'S WHITE HOUSE GARDEN by Elisa Carbone (Viking, May 2016), DOING HER BIT: A STORY ABOUT THE WOMAN'S LAND ARMY OF AMERICA by Erin Hagar (Charlesbridge, September 2016), SPRING FOR SOPHIE by Yael Werber (Paula Wiseman Books/Simon & Schuster Children's, February 2017), and BE KIND by Pat Zietlow Miller (Roaring Brook, March 2017). She is currently illustrating THE UNINTENTIONAL ADVENTURES OF THE BLAND SISTERS, a three book middle-grade series written by Kala LaReau and published by Abrams (January 2017.)
She is also the author and illustrator of PERCY AND TUMTUM: A TALE OF TWO DOGS (Running Press Kids, 2012), a book she wrote about a Pomeranian and a Dachshund, two dogs she one day hopes to own.
Jen's children’s television credits include Time Warp Trio (Discovery Kids Channel), Home Movies (Cartoon Network), and Sesame Street English. Occasionally Jen has worked in an office, where she has had mostly creative jobs. She once led a team of artists to create a symbol language and illustrated content for the Tango, a speech-generating device for nonverbal children.
A passion for children's books and storytelling are evident in her fine art. Her gouache compositions use folkloric characters to drive playful narratives rife with mischief, humor and mystery. Her work is a pictorial encapsulation of the creepy charm that ghost stories, tall tales, folklore, and fairy tales make us nostalgic for.
Jen is a graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied children's book illustration with David Macaulay and Judy Sue Goodwin-Sturges. You can find her in Brooklyn, NY, where she's either doodling away at her studio in the Pencil Factory, or at home in Cobble Hill with her husband and her cat.
