Biography
Emilie Burack
I write historical fiction because I HAVE to know what it was like. When a piece of history grabs my attention, especially one with an unusual human connection, I dig and dig until I find the story behind the details.
Years ago, I found a shoe box in the back of my father’s closet filled with cassette recordings made by my grandfather. He was 84 when he made them, and if he hadn’t thought the stories important enough to pass down, nearly all of what I know about my ancestors would have been lost forever. When I heard him say that his grandfather “lived in a place where they had little ponies with long hair,” I had to know more. When I discovered that place was the Shetland Islands, the story for The Runaway's Gold began to percolate.
I grew up on a farm in northern New Hampshire, learned to write at Kent School, and earned my degree in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College. I live in New Hampshire with my husband and two children.
