Amy Axelrod was born in Massachusetts, where her first novel, Your Friend in Fashion, Abby Shapiro, is set. As an undergraduate at Brandeis, Amy studied sociology and German, and got a master’s degree from Columbia in linguistics. While she originally thought she might like to be an interpreter or a college professor, her life led her in a different direction. After her second child was born, she began writing in earnest. A few years later, she sold her first picture book manuscript; but it wasn’t until after she had published eleven, including the bestselling Pigs Will Be Pigs math series, that the desire to write a novel came to her.

 

 

Amy also collects dolls from all over the world since her aunt started the collection, thinking that it would be a good hobby for her. Every time she would get a new foreign doll, Amy would go to the library and request a book about that country. She has kept all her dolls, except for the original Barbie in the black-and-white striped bathing suit. She was destroyed in an effort to transform her into Jackie Kennedy! Amy lives in the Hudson Valley in New York State with her husband.
