Truth or Dare

TRUTH OR DARE picks up one month after LIGHT IN SHADOW ended.
Interior designer Zoe Luce and private investigator Nathan Truax
are giving their marriage of convenience a chance to work as they
adjust to living together in Zoe's small apartment while Nathan's
"Pink Palace" is being remodeled. Their true feelings of love for
each other remain unspoken because each fears that the other will
want to end the relationship now that the danger from Zoe's past is
over. Plus, each is keeping a deep secret from the other for the
same reason. You know the drill.

But all is not Feng Shui and new cases. It seems that someone from
the past is after one of the Whispering Springs gang and Zoe is
once again experiencing her psychic phenomenon. It seems she has a
sixth sense when it comes to feeling the energy left behind by pain
or tragedy that has occurred in a room. Suddenly, this
manifestation becomes very strong in two nearby locations. Is the
psychic cobweb being left behind by her friend's husband, whom
Arcadia never believed was killed in a skiing accident? Is it one
of Nathan's enemies born of his investigation that ended in two
deaths? Or, perhaps someone from Candle Lake Manor is out for
revenge since Nathan and Zoe so thoroughly exposed that corrupt
psychiatric facility.

With her usual dexterity, Ms. Krentz juggles several story lines,
sub-plots, and even tosses in a mysterious "searcher" without ever
losing the thread of the tale or the reader's attention. The cast
of characters is abundant and so well drawn that you never have to
stop and wonder, "Now who the heck is that?" And the protagonists
are likable, each with their own values and ideals --- such as
Nathan Truax's penchant for solving cold cases. In Zoe's words,
"When you do get the answers, you create a little justice. You
balance some invisible scale somewhere."

TRUTH OR DARE has everything that we read mystery/romances for with
a little paranormal thrown in for the woo-woo crowd. If you missed
LIGHT IN SHADOW, Krentz deftly brings you up to speed early on so
you can enjoy this as a stand-alone. Either way, this is a good
read for fans and new readers alike.
