Trusting God Day by Day: 365 Daily Devotions

Joyce Meyer is one of the world’s most well-known evangelists. She has written dozens of books that not only have landed on the New York Times bestseller list, but more importantly have gone on to help millions of people in their walk with God. Just released is her latest devotional, TRUSTING GOD DAY BY DAY. Meyer says, “Trusting God allows us to enter His rest, and rest is a place of peace where we are able to enjoy our lives.”

Trusting God is not always easy, especially when we live in a world that entices us to put our trust in our circumstances, success and talents. But as the Bible tells us again and again, it is only in trusting God that we will find the true contentment and peace we so desperately seek. This book of 365 daily devotions was written to offer encouragement and guidance for every day of the year to help us learn to trust him more.

"Trusting God more is something we each need to learn on our own, and may take a long time to master. But TRUSTING GOD DAY BY DAY offers plenty of teaching, inspiration and encouragement to get a great start."

As in most of Meyer’s devotionals, TRUSTING GOD DAY BY DAY starts each meditation with a scripture on which that day’s reflection is based. It is followed by a brief, practical teaching and ends with a final “Trust in Him” takeaway to chew on throughout the day. The days are laid out by date, so no matter when you get the book, you’ll have a place to start.

Since there are many different elements to consider in our quest to learn to focus our trust in God, Meyer covers a myriad of subjects along the way. Much of the content in this compact devotional --- or at least the concepts --- can be found within the pages of many of the other books she’s written, but are condensed and revised to a briefer devotional length and style. Just a few of the entries you’ll find include titles like: Do Your Best with What You Have; God Will Meet You in the Fire; Controlling Your Emotions During Crisis; Break Free from Other People’s Expectations; Don’t Let Your Emotions Vote; People Who Are Difficult to Get Along With; Stop Saying, “That’s Just the Way I Am!”; Break Up with Bad Habits; God’s Preparing You for the Future; Determining Your Priorities; God Likes Playing Hide-and-Seek…So Keep Seeking!; The Key to Happiness; and many more.

One of my favorites is the entry for October 6th: “Be a Blessing to Others.” Maybe this doesn’t seem to have much to do with trust, but the thought is that if you trust God, you’ll have no problem demonstrating love to others. Meyer goes on to list several suggestions for showing love, taken from those she has collected over the years. Three ideas she gives are: Go grocery shopping for a family with a newborn baby; Let someone with just a few items go ahead of you in the checkout line; When it’s obvious that you and another person want the same parking space, let them have it --- and do so with a smile on your face! These are simple ways we can bless others and express love, God-style.

If you’ve read any other books authored by Joyce Meyer, you know all about her relaxed and practical style that contains plenty of humor and is easy to understand. As far as devotional books go, you’ll likely find that this one offers everything you’d expect: biblical teaching, thoughtful insight, a simple takeaway, and sometimes a swift kick in the behind. It’s always nice to come across a devotional with 365 days worth of content, to have one continuous book to follow throughout the year.

Trusting God more is something we each need to learn on our own, and may take a long time to master. But TRUSTING GOD DAY BY DAY offers plenty of teaching, inspiration and encouragement to get a great start.
