The Love Revolution

What does it mean to start a revolution? Is it possible to create change in people’s lives at home and around the world? Your initial response may be “Not in a million years,” but according to bestselling author Joyce Meyer, a revolution is at hand and it will transform everything in its wake.

THE LOVE REVOLUTION is a powerful call for every man, woman and child to live out their faith through love. The creed is simply “I take up compassion and surrender my excuses. I stand against injustice and commit to live out simple acts of God’s love. I refuse to do nothing. This is my resolve. I am the love revolution.” Over 15 chapters, Meyer details our need for a love revolution and the impact it can have on our lives, communities and world.

Meyer writes, “We need to overthrow the dominance of selfish, self-centered living our lives. Nothing will change in our world unless each one of us is willing to change. We often wish the world would change without stopping to realize that the condition of the world is the result of the way we live our individual lives and of the choices we make every day.” These are the profound words that one really must absorb in order to make a difference in this world. Unless we actually want to change, things will always stay the same. All the pain, all the suffering, all the hatred…it won’t go anywhere. And that’s why we need to take a stand to change, to do something different. We have the power to bring about some good in this world, and it is our responsibility to do so as human beings.

Meyer goes on to explain that, though many of us want answers for all the pain, suffering and hatred in the world, we often hold back because we feel unable or inept to make a difference. Each day, there are more than one billion people on the planet earning less than a dollar for the day’s labor, and there are 30,000 children dying. What can you or I do to make a tangible difference? More than we think! Though selfishness and greed are behind much of the world’s poverty and injustice --- including starvation, sex trafficking and abuse --- they can be defeated through generosity and selflessness. When we choose to speak up, when we choose to give, when we choose to get involved, we can begin turning the tides of oppression one life at a time.

Meyer draws on compelling stories from her own ministry (Joyce Meyer Ministries) around the world where children are being rescued from brothels and the poor are being fed. She encourages readers to practice “aggressive kindness” --- taking a proactive stance to give to those who are less fortunate --- in their own churches and communities caring for the widow, orphan and alien.

And to really drive home her point of how much change is needed, Meyer shares stories of individuals whose lives have been marked by poverty and injustice. Each closes with a few statistics on this type of abuse in the world. One such story follows Allen, a young boy abducted by rebels in Uganda and forced to fight for their cause, and shares the vivid details of his painful life. Allen is estimated to be only one of more than a quarter of a million children soldiers worldwide. Joyce Meyer Ministries is partnering with Watoto Ministry of Africa to reach youngsters like him, and the hope is that such stories will awaken the hearts of readers to begin making a difference.

As an added bonus, five guest writers --- including songwriter Darlene Zschech, Delirous’s Martin Smith and bestselling author John C. Maxwell --- add their own essays on what it means to be a “Love Revolutionary.”

Overall, THE LOVE REVOLUTION echoes the call for church and people of faith everywhere to boldly stand up to the poverty and injustice of our world. When motivated by love, we are an unstoppable force.
