Soul's Gate: A Well Spring Novel

Reece Roth can’t put it off any longer. He must gather the four together to fulfill a prophecy that will place his life and theirs in danger. But refusing the mission will mean certain death for countless others. Still, he can’t shake the memory of what happened last time, or the consequences that shred his heart daily. Sanctioned by the Holy Spirit, Reece arranges for the four to gather at Well Spring Ranch, knowing that they will never be the same. They will learn to see into the spiritual realm, where demons attack souls and Jesus empowers His human warriors. They will battle to free those chained by the devil’s lies, and in doing so, risk their lives and those of the people they love. But first, they must learn to enter through Soul’s Gate.

"The soul journeys are packed with action and tension, but it’s the premise that had me reflecting on the book long after the last page was turned. The story is fiction, but the demon attacks it portrays are very real, and this book reminds readers of that in a powerful way."

Reece knows there will be resistance from his very first step: gathering the four. His fears prove true when one of his future warriors cancels at the last minute. Heavy-hearted, he goes forth with his novices --- Brandon, Dana and Marcus --- hoping they can still fulfill the prophecy he received 30 years prior.

“There will come a day when you will train them --- they will be four. The song, the teacher, the leader, the temple…. When the time comes, the Spirit will reveal each of them to you…. You will teach them the wonders of my power they can’t yet imagine. And instruct these warriors how to go far inside the soul and marrow… You will pour out your life for them and lead them to freedom, and they will turn and bring healing to the broken, and set the hearts of others free.”

Brandon, Dana and Marcus arrive at Well Spring unaware of what’s in store, but trusting Reece, whom each of them has come to know as a good friend and spiritual advisor. When he explains they have been chosen to be spiritual warriors, entrusted with entering souls to battle evil, they think he’s crazy, but can’t help being intrigued. In the days to follow, “intrigue” is replaced with mind-blowing, otherworldly experiences as the little band discovers the true meaning of spiritual warfare, while facing their own personal demons and relational challenges. For Dana and Brandon, the challenge is heightened by their romantic history, which ended so badly three years prior that Dana nearly left Well Spring when she caught sight of Brandon. Getting past the hurt and resentment will mean allowing Brandon into her soul, a journey that has a monumental impact on both of them. But in the end, it is Reece’s soul that proves to be their most dangerous mission.

SOUL’S GATE, written by ROOMS author James L. Rubart, quickly has the reader intrigued, then hooked completely. The soul journeys are packed with action and tension, but it’s the premise that had me reflecting on the book long after the last page was turned. The story is fiction, but the demon attacks it portrays are very real, and this book reminds readers of that in a powerful way. This is not likely a book that will be appreciated by people outside the faith-based community, but for those of us on the inside, it offers a gripping plot with a meaty message. Check out the trailer on Amazon --- it will make you wish there was a SOUL’S GATE movie.
