Repo Madness

Ruddy McCann is almost famous. Well, actually he is famous, just not in the way he’d planned. Once a budding football star, that career was dashed one fateful night when he drove into the lake, killing Lisa Marie Walker, who was unconscious in the backseat of his car. So, instead of winning a professional sports contract, he drew a prison sentence. That’s why he’s a repo man today. But at least he has a job. He’s thankful for that. And he’s pretty happy, because he also has a beautiful fiancé, Katie Lottner. Things are looking up.

The one glitch is Katie’s dead father, Alan. He sometimes comes back as a voice in Ruddy’s head. Really. And Ruddy’s court-ordered psychiatrist doesn’t like that, especially this new doc who seems to want to go strictly by the book, no bending or stretching of the rules at all. If you know anything about Ruddy, then you know he doesn’t do well under those circumstances.

"[I]f you’re any sort of mystery fan, REPO MADNESS will bring you about as much fun as you can find in a book."

It was a little over a year and a half ago that Alan first popped into Ruddy’s head (in THE MIDNIGHT PLAN OF THE REPO MAN). He wanted Ruddy to track down the guys who killed him. In fact, he insisted on it. Ruddy learned early on that resisting Alan is futile, so together they went about solving Alan’s murder.

Now, without giving anything away, some information has come along that suggests maybe it wasn’t Ruddy who killed Lisa Marie. As you might imagine, clearing his name would make a huge difference not only to his reputation, but also for his peace of mind. If there’s the slightest chance he wasn’t to blame, Ruddy must go for it. Besides, he has Alan to help him puzzle it all out. In fact, he has Alan virtually pushing him. Ruddy knows he won’t be satisfied until he finds the truth. In the course of his investigation, with Alan’s assistance, they uncover secrets that folks in that part of the country would have preferred stay buried. And bring great danger on themselves and their loved ones.

Besides trying to solve what might be a murder, Ruddy is still out there towing autos people have quit paying for, a job the local law views as stealing. (It doesn’t help that the deputy was once Katie’s beau, so he sees Ruddy as a lady stealer, too.) He’s also trying to warm up to his new brother-in-law Kermit, but Ruddy’s dog Jake seems to be doing a fine job of that. Ruddy is a busy guy, with balancing his time between Katie (who might be having second thoughts), Alan (who might be driving him crazy), Jake (who might be defecting to Kermit), his sister (who might be the only truly sane one) and Kermit (who might be vying for Jake’s affection). Plus a friend who appears to have gone totally bonkers by having an affair with the wife of a highly lethal man.

Ruddy McCann is a big hunk of a fellow, full of heart and sometimes anger, often clueless about what women want and always stepping on someone’s toes. But he gets the job done, and for the most part, he’s kind, loving and honest. Unless you’re a bad guy. Then stay out of his way. So, if you’re any sort of mystery fan, REPO MADNESS will bring you about as much fun as you can find in a book.
