Power to Reinvent Yourself: How to Break the Destructive Patterns in Your Life

Author and evangelist Jason Frenn offers readers some powerful hope in often utterly powerless times. Just when Christians feel most discouraged about life, whether it’s on the national or personal scene, Frenn details a spiritual roadmap to overcoming the obstacles that have seemingly rendered them unable to move forward in life.

Frenn opens his inspirational resource by sharing his own mother’s dramatic story of change after succumbing to a series of losses and subsequent poor life choices. She “lost” him and his family to Costa Rica where they had relocated to serve as missionaries. Three months later, at age 46, she lost her husband when his health suddenly declined and he passed away. She fell into a depression and began drinking up to 50 ounces of wine every evening. When neighbors invited her over for a visit, it sounded like a good idea --- until she stumbled walking back home and fractured her nose, cut her face, and suffered a minor concussion. Truly a broken woman, inside and out, a friend helped her ask the most important question of her life: “Why not give God a try?” Over the following six months, Frenn observed long-distance a complete change in his mother as she worked diligently to break the destructive patterns in her life. It is these patterns that he shares in his newest text on reinventing oneself with the mighty power of God’s intervention.

Frenn offers his readers plenty of personal stories from his own life and compelling interactions that occurred during his evangelistic ministry campaigns. He always points to God’s miraculous intervention as men and women choose to first trust God and then act in obedience upon His principles for living as revealed in the Bible. There’s a lot of substance to be found in this six-chapter book, in which he lays out a plan of action for Christ followers to take one step at a time.

First, Frenn asks readers to determine “why” they want to change. He writes, “Because our desire to be different fuels the change we long for, our reasons for changing must be stronger than our excuses for not changing.” Personal transformation cannot take place until a person understands this essential “why.”

Second, Frenn equips men and women to change their perceptions by accurately assessing their lives as they truly are; once individuals see the truth about situations and circumstances, they recognize the need for God’s empowerment to take a different direction. Breaking the cycle of destructive behavior follows this introspective look at life. Frenn describes the three-step process to living free of past generations’ influences by constantly transferring leadership; learning to deal with temptation; and becoming aware of what we say, feel and do.

Taking the place of these destructive patterns, Frenn cites how vital it is to form Godly habits by renewing our thinking through regular biblical teaching, fellowshipping with like-minded Christ followers and daily prayer. He then takes on the topic of forgiveness and does so with enthusiasm, leaving readers without excuse for failing or refusing to pardon those who have hurt them. Closing out his six-step plan, Frenn illustrates the importance of surrounding oneself with other Christians who step alongside with support and encouragement, citing, “We need their objectivity, especially in times of trouble and transition.”

Convincing and upbeat, POWER TO REINVENT YOURSELF is sure to bring a needed boost of encouragement, and fans will value the numerous stop-points where Frenn asks Christians to consider their lives from past, current and future perspectives.
