Power Play: An FBI Thriller
As the U.S. ambassador to the Court of St. James, Natalie Black should be in England, attending to the duties that are part of her post. Instead, she's back in Washington, D.C. trying to save her job from the scandal that surrounded her in London and save her life from the determined, yet so far ineffectual, assassin who's targeted her on two continents.
Before things took a turn for the worse, Natalie was engaged to be married to the rich, charming George McCallum, Viscount Lockenby. Before the couple could make it down the aisle, however, George died in a suspicious car crash. Rumors abound in the British tabloids accusing Natalie of breaking up with George via email and causing him to take his own life behind the wheel of his car.
"Packed with non-stop action, scandal and sexual tension, this latest installment gives readers an insider's look at the Washington, D.C. political scene and the inner workings of the FBI, while the unforgettable characters interact with each other and life in a way that makes you forget they're fictional."
As if the titter of unfounded gossip isn't enough to distract Natalie from mourning the man she loved, multiple attempts on her life add to her problems. When Natalie reports the mysterious car that tried to run her off of a narrow country lane to the authorities, she's branded an alarmist who's simply making the story up in a bid for sympathy. Once back home in the States, Natalie narrowly escapes death again when another car charges her while she's out for her daily jog.
When Natalie crosses paths with FBI Special Agent Davis Sullivan during an attempted carjacking, she knows that he's the man to get to the bottom of the attempts on her life and discover the facts connected to George's mysterious death, especially since the two seem to be irrevocably connected. Davis takes an instant liking to the older woman who takes no crap, and he finds himself irresistibly drawn to her daughter, Perry, a renowned sportswriter for the Washington Post.
When Natalie fills Davis in on her situation, Savich, his supervisor at the FBI, and Savich's wife, Sherlock, are drawn into the mystery. Unfortunately, Savich and Sherlock already have their hands full trying to track down the escaped madman Blessed Backman, who can instantly hypnotize almost anyone and lure them to do his evil bidding. Blessed is out for blood to avenge his dead mother whom Savich and Sherlock captured when they infiltrated and broke up her religious cult.
Now it's time for everyone involved to use their considerable crime-solving skills to save Natalie from an unknown assassin and Sherlock from a veritable psychopath. Will they be able to join forces to keep the two women alive and put the criminals behind bars before it's too late?
