This is a good, short read by Peter DeJonge and James Patterson
(KISS THE GIRLS and JACK AND JILL). Travis McKinley has a
religious, Zen-like experience while playing golf on a cold
Christmas Day, which causes him to arrive late for his family's
Christmas Dinner. Not a good start to the day. He's 50 and newly
fired from his longtime advertising position, which he hated
anyway. His wife tolerates him. His friends think he's nuts when he
announces he's leaving home to try qualifying for the Senior Pro
Tour. The dialogue is fascinating, especially the exchanges Travis
has with Lee Trevino. This is a hopeful little gem, and you don't
even have to like golf to enjoy it.
