Winter Reading 2016

At Bookreporter.com, we kicked off 2016 with our second annual Winter Reading Contests and Feature. We hosted a series of 24-hour contests spotlighting a book releasing this winter and gave five lucky readers a chance to win it.

Even though our contests have wrapped up, we encourage you to take a look at this year's featured titles, as these are the books you'll want to read during the winter months --- and into the warmer ones!

End-of-the-Year Contest 2015

Congratulations to the winners of our 2015 End-of-the-Year Contest! One Grand Prize winner received all 33 of Carol Fitzgerald's Bookreporter.com Bets On picks from 2015, while 11 others won a selection of three of these titles. You can see all the winners below, along with 2015's Bets On selections.

Inside the O'Briens by Lisa Genova

A devoted husband, proud father of four children in their 20s, and respected police officer, Joe O'Brien begins experiencing bouts of disorganized thinking, uncharacteristic temper outbursts, and strange, involuntary movements. He initially attributes these episodes to the stress of his job, but as these symptoms worsen, he agrees to see a neurologist and is handed a diagnosis that will change his and his family’s lives forever: Huntington’s Disease.

Inside the O'Briens by Lisa Genova

April 2015

Many of you, like me, discovered Lisa Genova with STILL ALICE back in 2009. It was a Bookreporter.com Bets On selection, as were her later titles, LEFT NEGLECTED and LOVE ANTHONY, making her the first author to have three books noted as Bets On picks. She breaks another record now as INSIDE THE O’BRIENS receives the same honor. While each of these novels has been so well done, INSIDE THE O’BRIENS is tied with me for her best book.

Week of January 4, 2016

Paperback releases for the week of January 4th include INSIDE THE O'BRIENS, Lisa Genova's novel about a family struggling with the impact of Huntington’s disease; EVERY DAY I FIGHT, the inspiring story behind ESPN anchor Stuart Scott’s unrelenting fight against cancer; Dennis Lehane's WORLD GONE BY, in which Joe Coughlin must confront the cost of his criminal past and present; THE EMPTY THRONE, the eighth installment in Bernard Cornwell’s series chronicling the epic saga of the making of England; and THE SECRET WISDOM OF THE EARTH, Christopher Scotton's debut novel about an act of violence in a small, Southern town and the repercussions that will forever change a young man's view of human cruelty and compassion.
