Grave Danger: A Jack Swyteck Novel
James Grippando’s Jack Swyteck series deftly combines legal drama with high-octane thrills. The latest entry, GRAVE DANGER, is no exception, as Jack is wrapped up in an international case unlike anything he has ever worked before.
On the surface, Jack is assisting a client who is fighting to maintain custody of a young girl whose father wants to take her back to Tehran. Surprisingly, the woman this child has been living with is not her mother but her aunt. The child’s mother most likely was killed by Iran’s morality police, but there is no clear evidence to validate this or attempt to answer the question surrounding her being dead or alive.
"GRAVE DANGER is another terrific entry in a solid series of legal thrillers with an edge, and Jack Swyteck is an attorney you will want by your side when the going gets tough."
Ava Bazzi is Yasmin’s mother, and Farid is her father. We get to experience the circumstances that led to Ava’s incarceration and subsequent disappearance, and it is quite frightening. Two years later, Jack is brought into the case by Ava’s sister, Zahra. Not knowing what role, if any, Farid played in Ava’s apprehension and death, Zahra is pressing matters with Jack as her attorney in a case that falls under the little-known Hague Convention, which deals with international family squabbles.
It isn’t long before Jack is attacked and threatened by an unknown assailant in an obvious attempt to scare him away. This is all happening while he and his FBI agent wife, Andie Henning, are going through a serious rough patch in their marriage and is currently undergoing couples therapy. Jack had promised Andie that he would try to pull back from high-profile, dangerous cases --- but now he has agreed to help Zahra in what could be one of the most lethal investigations of his career.
At the center of it all is Yasmin, who is irresistible and will melt the hearts of readers. Jack will have to suffer through considerable adversity, as well as more than a few surprises, before he can provide the defense his clients deserve.
