Do No Harm: A Lucas Page Novel

For years, Robert Pobi has been one of the most unheralded writers of thriller fiction working today. His most recent series featuring Lucas Page is one of the best in the business. The latest entry is DO NO HARM, which centers on a mystery surrounding doctors who are losing their lives in various ways. This hits close to home as Page’s wife, Erin, is a gifted plastic surgeon.

Pobi opens the proceedings with a trio of great quotes about the medical profession. The one that I found most prophetic came from Voltaire: “Doctors are men who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, in human beings of whom they know nothing.” This aptly captures the courageous plight that physicians face on a daily basis.

"DO NO HARM is tense from start to finish with no letting up and continues to show why Robert Pobi is a must-read thriller writer."

The first victim is Jennifer Delmonico along the Brooklyn Bridge footpath. She suddenly feels some kind of electric shock rock her body. Moments later, she propels off the curb directly into the path of headlights that bear down on her and promptly tears her body apart. In the next scene, we see Page and Erin preparing to visit a charity ball. Page is a physical mess to look at, bearing the consequences of past cases that has left him with numerous scars and a metal prosthetic arm, as well as a permanent limp that causes him to walk with a cane.

An astrophysicist by profession, Page has been in demand by the FBI in recent years and has helped them with many large cases in which New York City was found to be under serious threat. He now learns of medical professionals being targets from Special Agent Brett Kehoe and is appalled to discover that the tally is up to 30 deaths and counting. When the suicide of Dove Knox is reported, Page is especially interested --- not only because he knew Knox personally, but because he immediately finds evidence indicating that Knox was murdered.

There are a number of potential suspects that arise during the course of the investigation. Thankfully, Page has since reunited with his favorite FBI agent, Alice Whitaker, and they are working diligently to find out who is behind these shocking homicides. Specifically, this needs to be done to keep the Pages safe since they all have targets on their backs. Page would like to back away from this dangerous case to focus on protecting his family, but he will learn soon enough that doing so will be impossible.

DO NO HARM is tense from start to finish with no letting up and continues to show why Robert Pobi is a must-read thriller writer.
