Any Minute Now
Eric Van Lustbader has become synonymous with espionage and political thrillers. He has penned dozens of bestsellers over the past several decades, in addition to doing a stellar job continuing the infamous Jason Bourne series originally created by the late Robert Ludlum.
On the heels of his most recent Bourne novel, Lustbader now releases a stand-alone thriller, the primary focus of which is the deadly black ops team known as Red Rover. The story opens with a three-man Red Rover team being sent into Pakistan after a wanted Saudi terrorist. The mission turns out to be a big zero, and it appears they may have been set up. They leave with one of their own left behind as a casualty. This does not sit well with team leader Greg Whitman and his brother in arms, Felix Orteño.
"ANY MINUTE NOW is chock full of suspense, double-crosses and thrills --- everything you expect from a great espionage/military thriller."
Red Rover quickly moves from a questionable mission into an unwanted one. Felix is approached by a mysterious person who seems to know everything about him and his family. This individual, named St. Vincent, then tasks Felix to investigate their own government, allegedly on behalf of the NSA, to weed out a traitor. Of course, Felix will not make any moves without Whit. Red Rover suddenly is back in business.
In the meantime, Whit is reacquainting himself with an old lover/colleague, Charlize “Charlie” Daou, an armaments expert who is more than able to hold her own when the going gets tough. Whit and Felix are committed to finding out what was behind their failed mission and the identity of the protected Saudi terrorist. Red Rover is about to take on their deadliest mission --- one not sanctioned by the U.S government or military --- and will not stop until they have all the answers they need.
With Charlie on board, Red Rover seems unstoppable. Their only issue now is that once the secrets are all revealed, it will be difficult for them to tell the good guys from the bad ones. Red Rover, having been tagged LIM or Lost in the Military, is literally on their own. The first hurdle they will face in trying to uncover the truth behind their terrorist target will be getting around their own government's NSA.
Once landing in the hotbed of the Middle East, they are faced with one cover-up after another, as well as an ultra-mysterious cabal known as the Alchemists. These wealthy mystics are literally turning the balance of modern warfare on its head, and their visionary leader has targeted one specific superpower to be used as an example of their new brand of fighting.
Eric Van Lustbader is a masterful writer who is able to lead readers down one path only to completely change directions. ANY MINUTE NOW is chock full of suspense, double-crosses and thrills --- everything you expect from a great espionage/military thriller.
