Review

After Nightfall

Marissa is engaged to Nathan, who she believes is her soul mate. But on the night they officially announce their engagement to a small group of family and friends, her one-time best friend, Lauren, ends up dead at the bottom of a cliff near the edge of her fiancé’s property. What happened? Was it an accident? Or was she purposely pushed?

Marissa and Lauren were best friends when they were kids. But during their college years, they drifted apart because Lauren fooled around with Marissa’s boyfriend and got pregnant. They then got married and moved away, and Marissa lost touch with Lauren. When they reconnect years later, Marissa invites Lauren to her engagement party. True to her old self, Lauren flirts with both Marissa’s fiancé and her future brother-in-law, which understandably upsets Marissa. When Lauren leaves the party, she says she needs to talk to her about Nathan. Now Lauren is dead, and Marissa is both hurt and confused.

"A. J. Banner writes with her usual fast-paced, action-filled style, providing readers with believable characters caught up in realistic situations."

While trying to piece together the events of that fateful night, Marissa realizes that her fiancé might be the killer --- or his brother, his brother’s wife, even his daughter or his niece. It seems that everyone who was in the house that night was up to something possibly nefarious. The more she discovers, the more she is afraid to learn the truth. But, of course, she has to know what really happened that night. How will the truth affect the rest of her life?

Author A. J. Banner writes with her usual fast-paced, action-filled style, providing readers with believable characters caught up in realistic situations. It makes you wonder what you would do if something similar happened to you. She keeps you turning pages, always wanting to know what’s going to unfold next, and guessing right up to the very last page.

If you’re a fan of Banner’s previous novels, THE GOOD NEIGHBOR and THE TWILIGHT WIFE, AFTER NIGHTFALL is a must-read. If you’re not, I encourage you to give this gripping thriller a shot. You just might find your new favorite author.
