From the beginning of time, history has been "passed on" through
storytellers. A MILE IN THEIR SHOES: CONVERSATIONS WITH VETERANS OF
WORLD WAR II is a fine example of how and why we need to keep
history alive. Elson interviewed veterans of World War II and this
book is a story told in their words.  

The action starts with Angelo Crapanzano's story of being in the
engine room of LST 507 (Landing Ship-Tank) during exercises off the
coast of Devon, England and continues until a letter written to the
author after a Veteran's visit to modern day Normandy. The action
never lets up.  

The "heroes" of A MILE IN THEIR SHOES were just the men and boys of
the times --- husbands, fathers, high-school drop outs looking for
a better tomorrow.  These men tell the tales which should
not be forgotten.
