About the Book
From the author of WHEN AUDREY MET ALICE comes a sweeping middle grade novel about a city girl forced to spend her summer in North Carolina, where she becomes involved in a centuries-old mystery, turning her once boring vacation into an adventure she never could have imagined.
Nell Dare expected to spend her summer vacation hanging out with her friends in New York City. That is, until her botanist mom dragged her all the way to Roanoke Island for a research trip. To make matters worse, her father suddenly and mysteriously leaves town, leaving no explanation or clues as to where he went --- or why.
While Nell misses the city --- and her dad --- a ton, it doesn’t take long for her to become enthralled with the mysteries of Roanoke and its lost colony. And when Nell meets Ambrose --- an equally curious historical reenactor --- they start exploring for clues as to what really happened to the lost colonists. As Nell and Ambrose’s discoveries of tantalizing evidence mount, mysterious things begin to happen --- like artifacts disappearing. And someone --- or something --- is keeping watch over their quest for answers.
It looks like Nell will get the adventurous summer she was hoping for, and she will discover secrets not only about Roanoke, but about herself.

Studying history seems to be the exact opposite of zooming out on the universe. Just when you think you have zoomed out the furthest, you find out that there is another star, another planet, another galaxy that is bigger. And this will, of course, never stop because the universe is expanding and we cannot know everything about anything that is infinite. It is the same thing with history. You can always go deeper into one specific topic and, sure, my American history class and my world history classes have both taught me about World War II. Read More

Neal Bascomb delivers another nail-biting work of nonfiction in this incredible true story of spies, survival and the greatest act of sabotage in all of World War II. The invasion begins at night, with German cruisers slipping into harbor, and soon the Nazis occupy all of Norway. They station soldiers throughout the country. They institute martial rule. And at Vemork, an industrial fortress high above a dizzying gorge, they gain access to an essential ingredient for the weapon that could end World War II: Hitler s very own nuclear bomb. When the Allies discover the plans for the bomb, they agree Vemork must be destroyed.

We are officially, non-officially in summer. With #MDW behind us, we have the summer solstice, the Fourth of July and the Olympics to look forward to for the next few months...and this hot, hot heat. If you happen to live in NYC, or were visiting for the past weekend, you’d know we had quite the heatwave. Rest assured, the temps tamed down yesterday, and while we love any reason to drink a cold margarita...and read outside...it was a little too much, too soon. A reminder to all of you braving it along with us: hydrate, catch that A/C when you can and maybe pick up one of those little travel fans to beat the heat underground. We swear it’s fashionable streetwear these days.
