Melissa Landers does not disappoint in the first book of her second space adventure series, STARFLIGHT. Unlike ALIENATED, STARFLIGHT is strictly human-focused. The world-building was done phenomenally. In no place does the reader find themselves confused as to what is going on because Landers provides just enough information. She doesn’t hit the reader right away with all the technicalities, and instead fully takes advantage of her 369 pages. Read More

About the Book
Solara Brooks needs a fresh start, someplace where nobody cares about the engine grease beneath her fingernails or the felony tattoos across her knuckles. The outer realm may be lawless, but it's not like the law has ever been on her side.
Still, off-world travel doesn't come cheap; Solara is left with no choice but to indenture herself in exchange for passage to the outer realm. She just wishes it could have been to anyone besides Doran Spaulding, the rich, pretty-boy quarterback who made her life miserable in school.
The tables suddenly turn when Doran is framed for conspiracy on Earth, and Solara cons him into playing the role of her servant on board the Banshee, a ship manned by an eccentric crew with their own secrets. Given the price on both Doran and Solara's heads, it may just be the safest place in the universe.

H.A. Ray and with his wife, Margaret, were best known for creating the classic and well-loved children's book character, Curious George. But H. A. also had an interest in astronomy. He redrew constellation diagrams in such a way as to make them easier to remember. His drawings were first published in 1952 in a book called THE STARS: A New Way to See Them. A children's version was published in 1954, then updated in 2008. This newest version has been updated once again. Read More

About the Book
A beautifully poignant debut perfect for fans of authors such as Rebecca Stead and Sharon Creech and books like Ali Benjamin’s THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH. When Rydr travels by train from Los Angeles to Chicago, she learns along the way that she can find family wherever she is.
Rydr is on a train heading east, leaving California, where her gramma can’t take care of her anymore, and traveling to Chicago, to live with an unknown relative. She brings with her a backpack, memories both happy and sad, and a box, containing something very important.
As Rydr meets her fellow passengers and learns their stories, her own story begins to emerge. It’s one of sadness and heartache, and one Rydr would sometimes like to forget. But as much as Rydr may want to run away from her past, on the train she finds that hope and forgiveness are all around her, and most importantly, within her, if she’s willing to look for it.

When a young adult author achieves immense success, his or her next book is filled with expectations, hopes and dreams that the writer’s words will capture their audience with the feelings they can inspire --- especially if readers must wait for years for this next book. For an author who has a large following, that pressure can be enormous, particularly when it comes to creating new characters with different personalities than ones that others fell in love with. But Veronica Roth has managed the pressure well, as shown by her newest book, CARVE THE MARK. Read More

While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not --- their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power --- something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive --- or to destroy one another.

A lot of people think this is a goodie two-shoes talking. But we do have a tendency to complain rather than celebrating who we are. I learned at my mother's knee it's better to appreciate what's happening... I think we kind of talk ourselves into the negative sometimes.
