Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson - History

The sinking of the Lusitania is a story that many of us think we know but don’t, and Erik Larson tells it thrillingly, switching between hunter and hunted while painting a larger portrait of America at the height of the Progressive Era. DEAD WAKE brings to life a cast of evocative characters --- from famed Boston bookseller Charles Lauriat to pioneering female architect Theodate Pope to President Woodrow Wilson, a man lost to grief, dreading the widening war but also captivated by the prospect of new love.

The Far Empty by J. Todd Scott - Thriller

Seventeen-year-old Caleb Ross is adrift in the wake of the sudden disappearance of his mother more than a year ago, and is struggling to find his way out of the small Texas border town of Murfee. Chris Cherry is a newly minted sheriff’s deputy, a high school football hero who has reluctantly returned to his hometown. When skeletal remains are discovered in the surrounding badlands, the two are inexorably drawn together as their efforts to uncover Murfee’s darkest secrets lead them to the same terrifying suspect: Caleb’s father and Chris’ boss, the charismatic and feared Sheriff Standford “Judge” Ross.

Five Presidents: My Extraordinary Journey with Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford by Clint Hill with Lisa McCubbin Hill - History

After an extraordinary career as a Special Agent on the White House Detail, Clint Hill retired in 1975. His career spanned the administrations of Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon and Gerald R. Ford. A witness to some of the most pivotal moments in the 20th century, Hill lets you walk in his shoes alongside the most powerful men in the world during tumultuous times in America’s history --- the Cold War; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy; the Vietnam War; Watergate; and the resignations of Vice President Spiro Agnew and President Nixon.

Ghost Fleet: A Novel of the Next World War by P. W. Singer and August Cole - Techno-thriller

The United States, China and Russia eye each other across a 21st-century version of the Cold War, which suddenly heats up at sea, on land, in the air, in outer space and in cyberspace. The fighting involves everything from stealthy robotic-drone strikes to old warships from the navy’s “ghost fleet.” Fighter pilots unleash a Pearl Harbor-style attack; American veterans become low-tech insurgents; teenage hackers battle in digital playgrounds; Silicon Valley billionaires mobilize for cyber-war; and a serial killer carries out her own vendetta. Ultimately, victory will depend on blending the lessons of the past with the weapons of the future.

Harvey Penick: The Life and Wisdom of the Man Who Wrote the Book on Golf by Kevin Robbins - Sports/Biography

Millions of people were charmed by the homespun golf advice dispensed in HARVEY PENICK'S LITTLE RED BOOK, a sports classic that went on to become the bestselling sports book of all time. Yet, beyond the Texas golf courses where Penick happily toiled for the better part of eight decades, few people knew the self-made golf pro who coaxed the best out of countless greats --- Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright --- all champions who considered Penick their coach and lifelong friend. In HARVEY PENICK, Kevin Robbins tells the story of this legendary steward of the game.
