Schneider Family Book Award 2012

The Schneider Family Book Award is donated by Dr. Katherine Schneider, and honors an author or illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences. Three annual awards are presented for the best Teen, Middle School and Children’s Book.

Mildred L. Batchelder Award 2012

The Mildred L. Batchelder Awardis a citation awarded to an American publisher for a children's book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a language other than English in a country other than the United States, and subsequently translated into English and published in the United States.

Pura Belpré Award 2012

The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth. It is co-sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), and the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking (REFORMA), an ALA affiliate.

Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production 2012

The Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production is presented to the producer of the best audiobook produced for youth available in English in the United States. The first Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production was given in January 2008. Honor titles may also be selected. The award is jointly administered by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), divisions of ALA, and is sponsored by Booklist magazine.

Stonewall Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award 2012

The Stonewall Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award is given annually to English-language children’s and young adult books of exceptional merit relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered experience.

New York Times Best Books 2011

Each year, the editors of the New York Times Book Review narrow down the best 100 books of the year and refine that list to the top 10 Best Books of the Year from that selection.

The National Book Awards 2011

Established in 1950, the National Book Award is an American literary prize given to writers by writers and administered by the National Book Foundation, a nonprofit organization.

New York Times Best Illustrated Books 2011

The New York Times Book Review has announced its list of the 10 Best Illustrated Children’s Books of 2011. The judges this year were Jeanne Lamb, the coordinator of youth collections at The New York Public Library; Lucy Calkins, the Richard Robinson Professor of Children’s Literature at Teachers College of Columbia University; and Sophie Blackall, an author and artist who has illustrated 24 books for children. They chose from among hundreds of children’s picture books published in 2011.

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction 2011

The Man Booker Prize for Fiction, first awarded in 1969, promotes the finest in fiction by rewarding the very best book of the year.

The Nobel Prize for Literature 2011

Since 1901, the Nobel Prize for Literature has annually honored writers who have produced "the most outstanding work in an ideal direction," in genres ranging from poetry, novels and short stories, to essays, speeches and plays. On October 6, 2011, the Swedish Academy awarded their 104th prize to Swedish poet Tomas Tranströmer because, through his condensed, translucent images, he gives us fresh access to reality”.
