National Reading Day was such a great experience for me. Lately I've been really busy with homework and sports so I haven't really had time to read. But on National Readathon Day, I sat down with CITY OF ASHES by Cassandra Clare and I got to finish it. Then I picked up PAPER TOWNS by John Green, which I have been wanting to read for a while. I was not disappointed, either! I had such a great opportunity to just sit, relax and read, something I think everyone should do! --- Katie N.
Sitting and reading for four straight hours sounded like a difficult challenge to me, but surprisingly, the time flew by! I think it may have been because instead of deciding to read one book for the entire Readathon, I had four different novels. Two of my novels --- THE GRAPES OF WRATH by John Steinbeck and THE AGE OF INNOCENCE by Edith Wharton --- were required reading for my literature class. I then added two novels that I wanted to be reading (DREAMFIRE by Kit Alloway and THE DARKEST PART OF THE FOREST by Holly Black) in order to make it more enjoyable! --- Kate F.
Well, first I had to decide which book I wanted to read since I have so many books on my "To Read" list. It took me a while, but I finally decided on THE BANE CHRONICLES by Cassandra Clare. I've had this book for over a month now and haven't gotten a chance to read it yet, so I took the opportunity to finally dive back into the Shadowhunter world. I was able to read four of the individual stories: "What Really Happened in Peru," "What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything," "The Last Stand of the New York Institute" and "The Course of True Love (And First Dates)." The last on the list was definitely my favorite so far. It's always lovely reading about Magnus and Alec, because they have such a great relationship. I enjoyed reading in the comfort of my bed with my many pillows and had my reading snack (pretzels!) by my side the entire time. It was definitely a great four hours and I definitely look forward to doing it again next year!! --- Katherina T.
Falling on the weekend before midterms, National Readathon Day was a great escape from all of the craziness around me and the perfect opportunity to finish THE JEWEL, an amazing read by Amy Ewing. I was able to convince my brother to read with me, making it all the more enjoyable. This is definitely something I hope to do every year now! --- Harman K.
Readathon should be something we do daily. Like, for real. Being busy with school activities, it's hard to find the time to sit down and let a book devour you in the evening. To our teachers, the term "weekend" apparently means "give your students more homework", so that means weekends are out. And then there's the teacher who will give you dirty looks when you take out your book even though you've finished all the work assigned to you (I am absolutely not bitter about this.) I read THE POISONWOOD BIBLE by Barbara Kingslover and whew. It's definitely not a light and easy read but it's worth it to read it, at least once. It's filled with vivid imagery and the writing is absolutely beautiful. I loved having the chance to sit down and just focus on reading, for once. Readathon should be a federal holiday and I am not joking when I say that. Where the President at? --- Pranshu A.
Reading for four hours was such a great experience. It truly reminds you why you love reading in the first place. I found it very hard to stop reading after four hours, and I am sure to do this again! I read DANCING WITH MYSELF by Billy Idol, and THE ANDY WARHOL DIARIES. --- Aspen R.
