Joe R. Lansdale’s novels often blur genre lines. It accordingly should come as no surprise that his latest novel, EDGE OF DARK WATER, reads like a mashup comprised  ofHUCKLEBERRY FINN, DELIVERANCE, and the Friday the 13^th movie franchise. When a popular teenage girl’s body is discovered in a dirt poor rural Texas area at the height of the Depression her friends --- an unlikely and very diverse group, to say the least --- steal some stolen money and begin a pilgrimage in her honor to California, pursued by an equally diverse and extremely dangerous set of characters in hot pursuit.
