Published in 1932, Huxley's eerily prophetic book presents a world in which the citizens of the utopian ideal are not controlled through tyrannical or militaristic means. Instead, the people are controlled through the nefarious concept that constant openness towards things like books and religion and freedom of speech ultimately condition people not to care; that citizens kept in a state of mindless bliss are more apt to be willing subjects. Some striking similarities between Huxley's vision and our present realities step off the page.
