While attending New York Comic Con, Teenreads was totally wowed by the awesome costumes people put together. Sure there were tons of Batmen and Wonder Women and even some monsters, but the coolest outfits were the ones that were both wearable and totally nerdy. Inspired by these trendy nods to fiction, we put together some outfits based on new YA releases that both guys and girls can wear.

Following the wild success of their Open House program, Random House has expanded their event list to include Big Ideas Night: evenings dedicated to a single book that asks readers to consider big, important themes, motifs and questions. This month, bestselling author Jodi Picoult discussed her latest book, SMALL GREAT THINGS, which shines a light on racial tensions, justice, and the gray area between our morals and our actions. Given the timely subject of her book, Jodi seemed like a natural choice, and her fans couldn't have been happier to meet up at Random House's beautiful NYC office to enjoy wine, hors d'ouvres and time to speak with the author.

Ever since February, I've been hearing a ton about a very special book called LABYRINTH LOST by author Zoraida Cordova. While fantasy and magic and common themes in YA books, LABYRINTH LOST immediately stood out to me because of its Latina heroine, Alex, a bruja who doesn't want anything to do with her amazing powers. But when she tries to rid herself of them, something goes terribly long and her family disappears. Alex joins forces with a mysterious boy and her best friend to journey to Los Lagos a dangerous in-between world to save her family --- and learn about herself along the way. Since hearing about this book for the first time, I've run into Zoraida at several book events, so I was beyond excited to finally attend her own book launch at Books of Wonder.  Read more about the event below!

A few weeks ago Teenreads.com’s Rebecca Munro and I attended the launch event for Tahereh Mafi’s new middle grade FURTHERMORE, which was held at the New York Public Library on 42nd Street. The event was free to attend --- except the signing required a purchase of the book.
